Martyn Phillips is a London-based award-winning producer, composer, multi-instrumentalist, recording engineer and mix specialist, helping craft the sounds of artists such as Londonbeat, Erasure, The Beloved, Swing Out Sister, Lisa Stansfield, and many more.
Martyn built his impressive reputation using his diverse production skills and innovative arrangements producing major hit records for numerous artists, achieving several top-ten singles albums. Production hits include two albums for Londonbeat’s including “Thinking About You” (Number One in 24 countries, including Germany and the U.S.A.); Jesus Jones’ “Right Here, Right Now” (U.S.A. Number One R&R single); Erasure's “Chorus” (U.K. Number One album), hit albums for Roachford and The Beloved and Deva Premal. His productions have achieved platinum, gold and silver status and have sold into the millions worldwide, encompassing a wide range of musical styles & genres.
Background
Born and educated in Oxford, where he was a scholar and graduated in Engineering Science, Martyn moved to London in 1982 to start his career in studios as an engineer, synthesiser programmer and record producer.
Musician
In addition to his production work, Martyn records and tours as a guitarist with the band M-Path, a three-piece band from three nations, two singers singing songs of duality and unity. The band consists of London record producer Martyn Phillips, New Zealand singer-songwriter Mathew James White & German drummer Philipp Renz, and draws on influences such as Calexico, Elvis Costello & Neil Finn to craft their blend of alternative Rock / Folk / Pop. Using guitar technology, the live sound is highly dynamic; from intimate acoustic to full-blown production that gives the impression that there are at least two more on stage.
Sine 2009, he has been an external lecturer and project supervisor in Music Technology at the University of West London.
